Nathan Beaumier is accused of spray-painting graffiti on the Big Blue Bug.

A man accused of scrawling graffiti on the Big Blue Bug surrendered to police Tuesday.

Twenty-five-year-old Nathan Beaumier of Providence was arraigned on a charge of defacing commercial property in Providence District Court.

It isnt your typical vandalism charge.

Beaumier, who also goes by the street name, Agen, has been charged with a misdemeanor graffiti defacing commercial property.

It does bring some closure to us and like anything else, when somethings happened to you like this, youre always happy to get a resolution, said Tony DeJesus of Big Blue Bug Solutions.

The vandalism to Nibbles Woodaway was discovered June 5.

Police said markings GDC and LMA, which were spray painted on Nibbles, are known to them and have been attached to Beaumier in past investigations.

In addition, a video that was posted on social media helped lead police to him.

They had to drag in a 20-foot ladder, put it up against the building someplace, climb the ladder, then pull the 20-foot ladder onto the roof, and then lean the ladder up against Nibbles, DeJesus said. So, it was quite a project for them to do that.

Common sense tells you he wasnt acting alone.

There would have to be a camera person filming him doing it and plus to put the ladder up and everything -- thats a lot of work, DeJesus said. Usually, when we do it, its two people involved, so were pretty sure there is a second person.

Police said the investigation continues, and more arrests may be imminent.

But for the states big blue termite, all is right again.

We cant thank the public enough for what they did for us, and the Providence Police Department for their efforts in the investigation, DeJesus said.

The 58-foot-long termite has since been repainted, as the bug is now donning a fresh coat of blue paint and looking younger than his 37 years. Security is being beefed up around Nibbles and an anti-graffiti coating will be added over the blue paint.

Beaumier has been released on $100,000 personal recognizance.

The Big Blue Bug has been an icon overlooking Interstate 95 in Providence for decades. The giant termite is the symbol of Big Blue Bug Solutions, an exterminator.
